In what were their first games of the 2020-21 campaign, Westminster Christian brought the hammer down on Christopher Columbus High School.
Leading the pack was junior Sal Steward, scoring 19 points en route to a 71-44 victory. Steward was responsible for a series of three-pointers that sealed the game for his group. Senior big-man James Henderson Jr. added 10 points and the highlight of the night with a monster dunk with two minutes left in the second quarter.
“We clicked together as a team and as a unit,” Henderson said on Saturday’s win. “We did what we practiced, stuck to the scouting report, and played our roles on defense which translated into great offense.”
Senior RJ Luis led the Explorers in scoring with 10 points. After the game, he communicated some optimism for the future of the season with some critiques on how to improve moving forward: “I think we have a really young team. We need to be more aggressive, play together and not scared.”
Second-year Columbus head coach Andrew Moran conveyed dissatisfaction with his team’s play: “We can make all the improvements. We need to defend better, we need to execute better, we didn’t really do anything well today.”
