A player on Inter Miami CF has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Thursday night.
The player, who was not identified, tested positive during a mandatory round of tests given to the team this week. Inter Miami added that the player was asymptomatic.
According to the team, that player “has been observing isolation protocols since he self-identified being in close contact with an individual who showed mild symptoms during a health screening questionnaire administered daily to players.”
The Club’s medical staff is working directly with local infectious disease specialists to treat the player.
Inter Miami resumed team workouts in Fort Lauderdale last week to get ready to take on Orlando City SC in the MLS Is Back Tournament opener on July 8 in Orlando.
Players from Atlanta United, FC Dallas, D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union have also tested positive for the virus.
