The GMAC- Greater Miami Athletic Conference tournament is underway, and day 1 did not disappoint.
The Boys’ Basketball Tournament includes Columbus, South Miami, Palmetto, Coral Park, Norland, Coral Gables, Krop, and North Miami.
Krop 59, North Miami 67
The Pioneers (14-4) move onto the semi-finals following a promising win over Dr. Krop (15-2), 67-59.
Vee’Lesk Avin led North Miami with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Carlos Hart flirted with a triple-double, registering 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Ronaldo Vescine added 12 points to the total.
NM faces Norland in a 6:00PM tip-off at Coral Park.
Norland 76, Coral Gables 69
Coral Gables (17-4) came into this one as the favorite, but Norland (15-8) begged to differ.
The two faced off in November, where Gables got the better hand of the matchup, winning on the road 56-49.
The Cavaliers got off to a hot start, taking a 23-13 first-quarter lead. Norland cut the lead to as little as 5 in the second-quarter, but the game went back and forth until the 4th.
The Vikings put on a 21-6 fourth-quarter, grabbing the win and moving onto the semi-finals.
Sophomore Cameron Johnson shot 81% from the field, leading with 26 points on Monday. Senior Ricky Bush and Malik Siggers added to the point total with 17 and 16.
Norland faces North Miami at Coral Park in a 6:00PM tip-off.
Palmetto 50, Coral Park 71
Following a tough senior night loss to Miami High, Coral Park (18-5) put on a show against the Palmetto Panthers (13-10), in a 71-50 win.
Ga’khari Lacount led all scorers with 20 points. Adrian Salcedo 16. Jason Don 12. Eddie Ramirez 10.

Columbus 59, South Miami 69
South Miami (18-4) comes into the tournament as the favorites to win it all. The Cobras hold an impressive resume with big wins over Mater Academy, Doral Academy, and Westminster Academy.
South Miami dominated Columbus (13-10) at their home court, 59-69.
Explorers Freshman Scottie Middleton was able to keep CCSH in the game with 25 points and 6 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 Middleton has the potential to take over South Florida Basketball.
South Miami faces Coral Park At CP in a 7:30PM tip-off.
Norland 62, North Miami 71
North Miami has the edge over the Vikings tonight. Avin will continue to lead in scoring for the Pioneers. Also expect Hart’s scoring totals to be higher from Monday’s 8 points.
Coral Park 68 , South Miami 65
Although South Miami comes in as the favorite to win it all, I’m expecting Coral Park to take this one.
The Rams are the host of tonight’s matchup, so expect a huge crowd rooting for CP. Tonight’s matchup also faces two of the best guards in Miami, South Miami’s Arturo Dean and Coral Park’s Ga’Khari La’Count.
