Florida Governor Ron DeSantis seems to be convinced there will be a high school football season this Fall in the Sunshine State.
On Friday, DeSantis was an interviewee on the Outkick the Coverage with Clay Travis podcast, and he was questioned if there would be a high school football season in 2020.
“Absolutely, this is so important for our kids, particularly those who are going to be seniors,” DeSantis said. “They need to be playing and you know I’m convinced that it’ll be something that is safe to do. So we should absolutely assume a full high school football season.”
“Look we had a lot of these kids in these spring sports, they got deprived of some of their senior years. To just be deprived of a season is a big problem,” he added.
The optimism from DeSantis has coaches, fans, and players wondering how the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) will respond. The FHSAA has not released any information relating to this. However, the FHSAA website has the first contact practice scheduled to take place on August 1st.
Assuming that the calendar has zero renovations, the 2020 season is expected to commence on August 20th.
