Head Coach Manny Diaz and his coaching staff have done a tremendous job recruiting this offseason, despite the losing record in 2019 (6-7). The Miami Hurricanes have cemented themselves as a top team in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
On Wednesday, Miami was cataloged on three-star corner-back Damarius McGhee’s top five list along with Georgia, Louisville, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.
The Pensacola native is ranked as the No. 28 cornerback in the nation and the No. 61 player in the Sunshine State per 247Sports Composite.
McGhee — 6-foot-1, 162 pounds — will provide length and athleticism for the Hurricanes secondary. He is exceptionally fast, recording a 4.56 40-yard dash in The Opening Regional and has proven that he is able to make plays on special teams. However, McGhee truly excels on defense as his length allows him to cover a lot of ground.
In his junior campaign, McGhee amassed 47 total tackles, three assists, and two tackles for loss for Pensacola Catholic High School. McGhee led the Crusaders to an 11-1 record which placed them in the 3A state playoffs. His play earned him 3A All-State first-team honors.
If McGhee decides to wear orange and green for the 2021 football season, he will be paired up with three-star corner-back, Tim Burns Jr. This would be a solid duo heading into Coral Gables especially when juniors DJ Ivey and Al Blades Jr. could potentially declare for the NFL Draft.
