Miami Northwestern linebacker A’Mahri McCray has announced his commitment to Florida International University.
“The program showed me a lot of love and they’re building something truly special that I know I can help and be a part of,” McCray told 305Sports.
McCray, 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, was a forced to be reckoned with for the Class 5A State Champions last season, totaling 120 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and an interception. He was named a 1st Team All-Dade and All-State selection.
247Sports Composite ranking has McCray as the No. 61 linebacker in the class of 2021 and No. 199 prospect in Florida.
McCray chose the Panthers over offers from Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Indiana, and UCF because he wanted to stay home.
“Staying home and representing for my city means the world to me, especially playing for the real University of Miami,” said McCray.
He becomes head coach Butch Davis’ first class of 2021 commit. “Me and coach Davis, Tim [Harris Jr.], and [Jeff] Copp have all talked on the phone and gotten closer day by day.”
